Arctic Warriors,

Welcome to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), the premier joint base in the Department of Defense and home to America's Arctic Warriors!

In October 2010, the Air Force's Elmendorf Air Force Base and the Army's Fort Richardson combined to become one installation in accordance with the Defense Department's 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission guidance. Merging two great installations and two powerful combat missions simply formalized an already close working relationship the Air Force and Army have shared here for years.

Today, JBER continues to grow in importance to US National Security due to our strategic location and complementary mix of military capabilities to include F-22 Raptors and E-3 Sentry AW ACS, Pacific Command's only airborne brigade combat tean1 and the C-17 Globemaster llls getting them to the fight, and HC-130 and HH-60 aircraft conducting search and rescue missions throughout the state and elsewhere during contingencies.

JBER's host unit is the 673d Air Base Wing; but we are also home to headquarters, Alaskan Command and 11th Air Force, headquarters, US Army Alaska, headquarters, Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Alaska National Guard, the 3rd Wing, the 176th Wing (ANG), the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, the 477th Fighter Group, and more than 60 other mission partners.

JBER hosts more than 13,000 Arctic Warriors, nearly 20,000 family members and more than 3,000 civilian employees. The installation covers over 79,000 acres, stretching from the northern Anchorage area to Palmer. We are committed to providing world-class support to you and your family, enabling you to focus on your mission and we hope your tour here is personally and professionally rewarding.

JBER has two Military & Family Readiness Centers that provide services to include deployment support, transition and relocation assistance, spouse employment assistance, special needs resources and support, financial readiness services, emergency financial assistance, crisis assistance, volunteer resources, Wounded Warrior assistance, casualty and survivor benefits, and information and referral. We also have strong Key Spouse and Family Readiness Group programs that support and assist our families and units, providing a network of communications amongst our family members, chain of command, and community resources. These programs are not just for deployed families; they are for all military families. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the programs highlighted above, please contact the Military and Family Readiness Centers at 552-4943 or 384-1517.

Whether Alaska is a temporary stop or a permanent move for you, we want to make sure you stay up to date on the latest information and the great activities, programs and services that are available to you. I encourage you to add the JBER Home Page,  http://www.jber.af.mil  to your favorites and to follow us on the JBER Face Book page at https://www.facebook.com/JBERAK.

The JBER community welcomes you!

Arctic Tough, Family Strong!
