The 673d Force Support Squadron, Warfighter & Family Services Flight - Family Matters Program offers six locations that provide training, education, programs, information, and referrals to service members and families, retirees, and DoD civilian employees.

 

M&FRC Services Available

Air Force Aid Society (AFAS):

Air Force Aid Society (AFAS):AFAS provides worldwide emergency assistance, sponsoring education assistance programs and offering an array of base community enhancement programs that improve quality of life for Airmen and families.  Services are provided on a case-by-case basis and may include:  interest free loans, grants, bridge loans (in event of family death), primary vehicle repair, basic living expenses, and family member scholarships. 

Air Force Families Forever:

This program ensures families of deceased Airmen are provided with immediate and long-term bereavement care, services and support.

Casualty Assistance/Survivor Benefits Plan:

Provides consultation on benefits offered by a wide variety of programs such as DoD, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Health and Human Services and other state and local agencies serviced by a trained Casualty Assistance Representative.  The Survivor Benefits Plan provides Air Force retiring service members and spouses the latest information on benefits. 

Employment Assistance:

Supports military, civilians and families in achieving short and long-term employment.  Services include referrals for education/training, obtaining career goals in the private and public sectors and employment skills counseling.  Resources for self-employment, small business, local labor market information, employment trend tracking, skills and interests identification, skills development workshops, job bank or job referrals, linkages to alternatives to paid employment (e.g., volunteerism and education).

Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP):

The EFMP program helps families on the path to empowerment by providing information and referral services, non-medical case management, training and other forms of support, such as providing opportunities for families to connect with each other around a common need or concern. An EFMP family member can be an adult or child with physical, emotional, developmental, or intellectual disorder that requires specialized treatment, therapy, education, training, or counseling.  

Information, Referral and Follow Up:

Serves as a centralized point of contact and primary source for information regarding both military and civilian agencies, services and programs, and crisis intervention. Trained staff will provide ID card holders with information or assistance they may need or will refer them to the appropriate agency for assistance.  Additional services include:  computer resource center, copy and fax services.

Mobilization and Deployment Readiness:

This program educates service members and families on the stages of the deployment cycle, training and other aspects of military life. The mission of Mobilization & Deployment Readiness is to develop an adaptable community in which service members and families are prepared for deployment, have access to the support they need throughout its course, and are prepared for the unique challenges they face when the service member returns from deployment.

Personal and Work Life:

These services promote community wellness and assist with the quality of life for service members and families by providing educational family enrichment and resilience services. Keeping the challenges that face the military family in mind, the classes and support groups offered promote growth and safety by covering a wide variety of topics. The classes and support groups are designed to improve and build on personal problem-solving skills and life skills. Classes can help with understanding the impact of stress, anger, deployments and family reunions. In addition, they provide valuable information on parenting, life skills and couples enrichment.

Personal Financial Readiness Services:

Provides information and personal financial consultation to assist service members and families maintain financial readiness.  Assistance is provided to develop a budget based on individual income and expenses; manage credit and current debt; plan for insurance expenses; and prepare for personal financial readiness. Services include one-on-one financial counseling appointments to help with budget/spending plan, bank/financial services, credit/debt management, car buying, individual retirement accounts, uniformed Thrift Savings Plan and basic investments.

Relocation Assistance:

Provides service members and families, especially those new to the military, with relocation information, education, and skills development to manage and adapt to the mobile military lifestyle. Programs include: JBER Newcomers Orientation mandatory for all military and highly encouraged for spouses;  Sponsorship Training via online at Electronic Sponsorship Application (eSAT) and instruction for unit sponsor monitors; Relocation Counseling to include Route Maps/Travel Information, temporary/permanent housing,  child care,  medical, spouse employment, educational and volunteer opportunities; Lending Locker provides temporary household items during relocation.

Transition Assistance Program (TAP) and Soldier For Life-TAP:

Transition Assistance is mandatory for all service members who will transition from military life to civilian life; i.e., retire or separate.  It provides service members with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to empower them to make informed career decisions, be competitive in the global work force, and become positive contributors to their community as they transition from military service and reintegrate into civilian life. It is important for every service member separating or retiring from the military to take full advantage of the services offered through the Transition Assistance Program.

Volunteer Resources:

The volunteer resource program provides centralized recruitment, training and recognition.  Family members wishing to volunteer can meet with a staff member who will help them review options and who can provide information on the wealth of volunteer opportunities on JBER and in the local community.   Volunteer Coordinators also assist supervisors with volunteer placement and problem-solving.

Army Emergency Relief (AER):

Emergency financial assistance program that assists Soldiers (active and retired), families, widows, and orphans during valid emergencies that require immediate attention. Assistance is provided as an interest-free loan, grant or a combination loan.  Contact the AER representative at the JBER Welcome Center, Building 600, room B365. Army OneSource (AOS):

Provides comprehensive community support and service delivery for Soldiers and their Families regardless of component or geographic location. Our objective is to empower Military Families to be strong, healthy and connected to the best resources wherever they may be. Supports Soldiers and Family Members of the Active Army, National Guard, and Reserve by providing access to programs and services through myarmyonesource.com, mobile and social applications, military installations, and local community partners. Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLC):

Military and Family Life Counselors are licensed professionals who provide situational, problem-solving counseling. Counselors can address a number of issues including deployment, marriage and relationships, parenting, communication, stress/anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and daily life issues. No written records are kept, and it is free to service members and families. Call 907-384-1534 for more information.

Military OneSource (MOS):

Confidential non-medical counseling is short-term (up to 12 sessions) and solution-focused. It is intended to prevent the development or exacerbation of lifestyle conditions that may compromise military and family readiness. Non-medical counseling programs provide confidential, short-term counseling to active duty members, National Guard and Reserve service members, and families. Confidential non-medical counseling addresses issues such as improving relationships at home and work, stress management, readjustment following a deployment, marital problems, parenting, grief and loss. Servicemember and Family Assistance Center (formerly known as Soldier and Family Assistance Center):  The center provides tailored integrated support services in a centralized one-stop-location for support of Warriors in Transition (WT) and families. The program ensures that wounded, seriously ill, and injured servicemembers requiring long-term medical care and/or medical/physical evaluation board receive non-medical services, reintegration and transition support.  One-on-one pre-separation consultation, educational consultation, information and referral are also provided.
