Colonel Timothy R. Prior is the Deputy Joint Base Commander and Vice Commander, 673d Air Base Wing, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Colonel Prior was born in Syracuse, New York. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of Vermont; where he received his commission in Armor.

After the Armor Basic Course, Colonel Prior's first assignment was with the 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bad Hersfeld, Germany, where he served as a Tank Platoon Leader and Troop Executive Officer from 1985-1988. Upon completion of the Ordnance Advanced Course in 1989, Colonel Prior was assigned to Korea with the 227th Maintenance Battalion as a Maintenance Officer and Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 6th Ordnance Battalion. From 1991 until 1993, he was assigned to NATO/Landsoutheast, as the Deputy Commander, Communications Electronics Forward Depot, Izmir, Turkey. He was then assigned to Panama, 3rd Special Operations Support Command, as the Support Operations Officer. In 1997, Colonel Prior attended the Australian Command and General Staff College. He was then assigned to Stuttgart, Germany, in 1998 as the Group S3 for the 6th Area Support Group. In 2000, he served as the G3, Chief, Emergency Operations Center, and as the Chief, Supply and Maintenance, for the 21st Theater Support Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany. In 2002-2003, he deployed in support of Task Force Falcon, Kosovo and Turkey, with the 1st Infantry Division in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Colonel Prior commanded the 187th Ordnance Battalion, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, from 2003-2005. From 2005 to 2007, he was assigned as the J4, Director of Logistics, Special Operations Command-Central, where he deployed in support of both Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM, along with other support missions throughout the U.S. Central Command AOR. He served as the J4, Director of Logistics, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), MacDill Air Force Base, Florida until he assumed Command of the Fort Richardson Garrison in 2009.

Colonel Prior holds master degrees in Public Administration from Troy State, and Advanced Military Studies from the University of Canberra.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal with one OLC, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three OLCs, Army Commendation Medal with one OLC, Army Achievement Medal with three OLCs, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Kosovo Campaign Medal, GWOT Expeditionary, GWOT Service, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon with numeral 8, the NATO Medal, and the Dominican Republic Armed Forces Parachute Badge. He has earned the Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab.

Colonel Prior is married with four children.
