7/3/2012 - JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Tonight (July 3) at approximately 8 p.m., a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the 3rd Wing stationed at JBER, will conduct a flyover above the Lions Community Park in Eagle River.
Residents of Eagle River should expect loud jet noise for a few moments during
the flyover.
The flyover will be conducted at the request of the Eagle River Lions Club, in
support of the club's Independence Day extravaganza, which starts at 6 p.m.
and lasts until 1 a.m.
The C-17 Globemaster III is the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft to
enter the airlift force. The C-17 is capable of rapid strategic delivery of
troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward
bases in the deployment area.
The 3rd Wing provides the U.S. Pacific Command, trained and equipped low
observable air dominance assets, airborne command and control platforms and
global airlift resources for theater-wide contingency operations.
The 3rd Wing also provides U.S. Northern Command, immediate early airborne
detection, warning, surveillance and interception of hostile forces within the
Alaska North American Aerospace Defense Command Region.
